Screened from nearly 60 applications, 22 disfigured children meeting necessary medical requirements were selected for charity surgery program at Hong Ngoc General Hospital. This is annual program hosted by Hong Ngoc General Hospital in collaboration with the renowned Facing the World Charity (UK). The program’s mission of 2019 took place from 4 May to 10 May 2019.

Since 2016, the charity surgery program by Facing the World and Hong Ngoc General Hospital with 6 missions have received more than 400 registered applications and performed successfully life-changing surgeries for nearly 100 children with craniofacial deformities. These impressive number shows the huge effort that the team of specialist from Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing the world have put into the program, hoping that there aren’t any disfigured children in Vietnam in future.

This year, Dr. Niall Kirkpatrick – Medical Director of Facing the World was still in charge of the work of British specialists as usual. He has been Consultant Craniofacial Plastic Surgeon and Lead Clinician Craniofacial Unit of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital London. Other members of the team are leading specialists in craniofacial and reconstructive surgery.

Hong Ngoc General Hospital’s doctors partaking in examination, screening and surgery with Facing the World’s specialists include Dr. Nguyen Nguyet Nha who has nearly 40 years of experience in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tung and Dr. Bui Tuan Anh – the two doctors taking several study and training courses abroad.

After more than a month of receiving applications for charity surgery, Hong Ngoc General Hospital had received nearly 60 applications sent from various provinces across Vietnam such as Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, and even from the faraway ones such as Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City and Kien Giang. On 4 May 2019, the team of doctors from FTW and the hospital directly examined for the registered cases and then selected 22 cases which were able to receive surgery. The surgeries were scheduled from 6 May to 10 May 2019.

The 22 patients are recovering well. They are receiving great post-care services at Hong Ngoc General Hospital. Moreover, the hospital has supported disadvantaged patients and family by sharing with them financial burden of hospitalization so that they have peace of mind for treatment.

The charity surgery program 2019 by Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing the World, lasting from 4 May to 10 May 2019 has come to an end with 22 successful cases of surgery. The 22 patients with improved appearance now would get more confidence to integrate to the immunity. The mission this year also contributes to the partnership between Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing the World in both medical practice and knowledge transferring. We do hope that in the near future, Facing the World would support the hospital to build a big craniofacial center in Vietnam.
