On 23rd May 2013, Hong Ngoc General Hospital team of doctors and ENT (eye-nose-throat) specialist from Christian Changhua Hospital have examined and give free medicine for nearly 250 poor people in An Phu Commune, My Duc, Hanoi. A majority of them are children at pre-school ages.
An Phu commune is located in the junction between My Duc district and Lac Son, Lac Thuy districts of Hoa Binh Province. With the large area of complicated mountain terrain, the commune only consists of nearly 2000 households, living in 13 villages. 70% of the population is Muong ethnic people. Mainly living based on farming activities, the locals have to face with numerous difficulties due to low educational level and poverty.
Located in the poor residential area, the health station of An Phu commune is lack of necessary medical equipment to care for locals’ health.
At 8am, the team of doctors started to examine for the poor locals, most of them are children aging from 2 to 6 years old. There were also elder people bringing their grandchild to the examination as the children’s parents were busy at harvesting rice. The large number of patients made them to wait for a long time but these elder people were till happy as their grandchildren would have chance to enjoy free examination and medications for their ENT problems.
The dedicated team of Hong Ngoc General Hospital also advised them to take the health check-up to detect some potential problems to their health, which brought more happiness to these people.
In this program of Healing up Hand series, the examination includes clinical check-up and endoscopy. After the examination, locals were given necessary medications for free. The program offered examination for nearly 250 people in An Phu commune, with the total value of medication was more than 10 million VND.
“Knowing that An Phu is the poorest commune in Hanoi and still has to be supported by the 135 program, Hong Ngoc General Hospital’s leaders decided to host a medical outreach to the commune, hoping that we would help people to improve their health, especially their ENT problems as well as allow them to access the best health care services”, said Ms. Doan Thi Nguyet Anh – Hong Ngoc General Hospital.
We hope that we would organize more charity programs and activities for the poor across the country and receive the support and sponsorship from individuals and organizations as well.
