From 15 October to 19 October 2018, Hong Ngoc General Hospital in cooperation with Facing the World (UK) screened and examined for numerous children. 3 lucky severely disfigured ones were successfully operated.

On 15 October 2018, Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing the World (FTW) launched the charity surgery program 2018 with the participation of FTW leading experts, the hospital’s doctors, children who had registered for examination and their family, as well as representatives from newspapers and media channels.

After the short opening ceremony, the doctors conducted screening and examination for nearly 40 applications. Assessment was made on the basis of their situation, age, and health condition. 20 cases were directly examined by FTW experts and Dr. Nguyen Nguyet Nha from Hong Ngoc General Hospital. These cases include serious maxillofacial and oral deformities, some of them require long time of consultation and surgery.

Most of cases should be re-checked and operated when the children grows up, reaching certain age. Their documents and application are saved for the next mission of the program.

Three cases which met all requirement for surgery were selected to receive free surgery. The surgeries were performed by world-leading surgeons of FTW, including Dr. Mehmet Manisali – maxillofacial consultant expert, Dr. Lucy Davenport, and Dr. Nguyen Nguyet Nha – former head of Craniofacial Department – Vietnam National Pediatric Hospital, Hong Ngoc hospital’s reconstructive surgeons.

The charity surgery program 2018 successfully organized, offering life-changing opportunities for the disadvantaged children. The children who received free surgery has quickly recovered and cared by Hong Ngoc General Hospital. The hospital will keep supporting them, sharing with their family financial burden.

With continuous effort, Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing the World Charity hope that more Vietnamese disfigured children would benefit from the program, having a change to start a better normal life as they always dream about.

Apart from the charity surgeries, in three days from 16 October to 18 October 2018, Facing the World’s experts delivered their presentation in in-depth topics related to orthognathic surgery. This was a great chance for local doctors and specialists to acquire knowledge and learn from their experiences. We do hope that these workshops will help Vietnamese doctors improve their performance so that more children with deformities would be treated and their dreams would be realized soon.
