Press release: Hong Ngoc Hospital and Facing the World to organize medical exchanging seminars and charity surgery program



Hanoi, 23 April 2019 – Hong Ngoc General Hospital

From 4 May to 11 May 2019, Hong Ngoc General Hospital in collaboration with Facing the World (UK) will offer life-changing surgery for Vietnamese disadvantaged children who have birth defects. At the same time, the specialists from Facing the World and Hong Ngoc Hospital will conduct in-depth medical seminars on diagnosis and management of several typical deformities.

Place: Hong Ngoc General Hospital – No. 55 Yen Ninh, Ba Dinh, Hanoi


As scheduled, from 4 May 2019, the team of doctors from Facing the World and Hong Ngoc General Hospital will examine and screen patients’ conditions on the 4th floor of the hospital. Registered applications who meet necessary health conditions will be selected for surgery in the next days.

After that, on the basis of each case, Hong Ngoc General Hospital will provide post-operate care for the patients (from 1 to 2 months)

Key doctors:

Dr. Niall Kirkpatrick – UK renowned Craniofacial Plastic Surgeon. With the role of the charity’s Medical Director, Dr. Niall Kirkpatrick has traveled to more than 20 countries, bringing smiles on the face of numerous children with birth defect. He is now Head of Craniofacial and Ophthalmology Unit – Chelsea & Westminster Hospital London (UK).

Dr. Simon Eccles – Secretary and Joint Lead Surgeon for the charity Facing the World. He has great experience as consultant in craniofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery for children at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Dr. Simon Eccles was President of the Plastic Surgery Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) from 2010 to 2011.

Dr. Daniel Geogre Ezra – Fellow of the Royal College for Surgeons and Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is currently working as Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital and is Honorary Lecturer at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. His specialist areas include all aspects of lacrimal surgery including Lester Jones tubes, complex redo lacrimal surgery; eye socket implants, eye socket fractures, tumour reconstructions, ptosis surgery; cosmetic eyelid surgery including upper and lower eyelid blephsroplasty, brow lift and midface lift, botox and Filler injections…

Dr. Kevin Tsang – Neurotrauma Consultant of Imperial College NHS Trust. He is an experienced doctor and lecturer in issues related to neurotrauma. He is fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr. Kevin Tsang specializes in complex surgery for skull fractures, breast surgery, cervix surgery and more.

Dr. Paul Gerarchi – Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He re-established and supervised the Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery teaching program at Chase Farm Hospital. His specialist areas include head and neck surgery, facial plastic surgery and rhinology.

Dr. Naresh Joshi – Fellow of Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He has gained great experience in craniofacial, ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgery.

Dr. Nguyen Nguyet Nha – Hong Ngoc General Hospital.  She was former deputy head of Craniofacial Department at Hanoi National Hospital of Pediatrics and have studied and worked at Craniofacial Center of Changgung Menorial Hospital (Taiwan) and Paris VI Medical University (France). Dr. Nha has cooperated with various teams of foreign doctors for charity examination and reconstructive surgery in Vietnam such as Operation Smile American surgeons, Interplast (Netherlands) to perform jaw surgery for patients in 8 Northern provinces, and Globe Care (Korea) to offer surgery at Hanoi National Hospital of Pediatrics.

The program of charity surgery hosted by Hong Ngoc General Hospital in collaboration with Facing the World is organized annually with the goal of providing plastic and reconstructive solutions to improve imperfect appearances of disfigured children. The program has helped hundreds of children who has craniofacial deformities to confidently integrate in the community.
