From 12th to 21st October 2018, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, in the cooperation with Facing The World (UK) will host the next Lifting up Dream program, realizing the dreams of poor Vietnamese children who are suffered from congenital deformities.
According to WHO, there are about 100 million children born with deformities in the world. Among about 1.5 million births each year in Vietnam, 22,000 children are born each with congenital malformations. Not many of them could afford surgery as tough financial situation prevents them from “correcting” the malformations. A normal life with normal face and smiles is just a dream to these children.
Understanding the difficulties that poor families have to face with to help their child overcome his/her imperfection, Hong Ngoc General Hospital has been always attempting to collaborate with international charity organizations including Facing The World to offer free surgery to these unlucky children.
This October, a team of Facing the World’s experts and specialists will continue their mission of bringing “miracles” to Vietnamese children with maxillofacial defects. Leading the team is Dr. Mehmet Manisali, who is member of British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American academy of facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons and has been consultant in Maxillofacial Surgery of St George’s Hospital and Mayday Hospital.
Other members include Dr. Anne Scotland Blyth – member of the Council of The Royal Society of Medicine; Dr. JahradHaq – Senior Craniofacial Fellow, Chelsea and Westminster Hosptial and member of European Association of Cranio Maxillofacial Surgeons; and Dr. Lucy Daveport – MSc MFDS, Membership in Orthodontics – Royal Colleges of Surgeons Edinburgh. All of them are the leading experts in oral and maxillofacial surgery. With their heart and talent, Facing the World’s doctors have helped thousands of Vietnamese children with deformities to find back their smile and gain confidence to integrate in society.
From Hong Ngoc General Hospital, Dr. Nguyen Nguyet Nha who was former deputy head of Craniofacial Department at Hanoi National Hospital of Pediatrics and worked at Craniofacial Center of Changgung Menorial Hospital (Taiwan) and Paris VI Medical University (France) will partake in the operation team. With numerous years of working as surgeon, Dr. Nha has successfully operated for an array of complex cases which require a high level of qualifications and skills.
As scheduled, from now until 12 October 2018, Hong Ngoc General Hospital is receiving applications for oral and maxillofacial surgery from patients across Vietnam. After the application screening, the hospital will arrange examination and offer surgery for the qualified cases. For the disadvantaged poor children, Hong Ngoc General Hospital will also offer free them hospitalization costs so that their family would need to worry during the treatment.
The free surgery program hosted by Hong Ngoc General Hospital in cooperation with Facing The World is a meaningful program showing the humanitarian tradition of Vietnamese people in particular and international community in general. Hong Ngoc General Hospital do hope that with the support of the hospital and Facing The World, there will be more and more children benefiting from the program and having a brighter future.
